Trouble with Blender 1.44?
I’m having difficulties with blender. With all the features the program includes, that’s not very difficult. Of course, the issue would be that I can’t figure out how to rotate a hat that I made for a tutorial. I did everything as the tutorial said, except… I accidentally had it on the top view while creating a profile for the hat that the tutorial had me making, thereby putting the top as the front, etc. I can’t figure out how to rotate an object. The tutorial, Blender 3D: Noob to Pro- is on WIkiBooks, by the way, and it hasn’t mentioned how to rotate objects yet. Sure, I could look for it in a later portion of the tutorial, but that would prove difficult since there are over 50 tutorial lessons (that are beginner, anyway) and it would be extremely cumbersome to actually look through all of them. So I came here for an answer. I hope someone has one, seeing as my previous Blender-related question got none!
Well, first of all, I assume you mean Blender version 2.44 (not 1.44)!
If the object is JUST the hat, then you can rotate it in either object mode or edit mode. You might want to try it both ways, just for fun.
In object mode, select the hat (with the LMB) and hit R-key and move your mouse around and then click when it’s in the position you want.
If the hat is in the same object as other things, and you want to rotate JUST the hat, you need to go into edit mode. Hitting the TAB-key usually does this. In edit mode, you will see all of the individual points. Select all of the points on the hat, using box, or hovering your mouse over a point and hitting the L-Key. You might want to de-select any other points by hitting the A-Key a few times, making sure all of the points are ‘off’ before you select just the hat.
A few tips…
- If you want to escape, hit the “Escape” key. - If you want to undo your rotation, hit ‘Ctrl – Z-key” - You rotate around the axis you are viewing from. If you want to rotate around the X-axis, hit the X-key (after you hit the R-key). Likewise for the Y-axis or Z-axis.
One last thing – I strongly suggest

for questions like this. And for your title, use something BESIDES “Trouble with Blender” – give the people who are going to help you SOME kind of clue. Other newbs use the forums for help and that helps them too.
